The village of Barroca Grande, in the Beira Baixa region, has lived off tungsten extraction for over a century. Today it is surrounded by ruins, both industrial and psychological. It is here that Chico grows old, a seventy-year-old man with well-defined routines, a former worker in the Panasqueira mines. Mariana, a young artist and environmental activist from Porto, arrives and critically discovers this contaminated territory. Over the course of a year, shaped by the village’s daily life, the threat of the mine’s closure, and the struggle against the opening of a new open-pit lithium mine, Chico and Mariana each fight for their ideals. Two ideological and generational worlds collide.
